Trying to figure out if a kenmore Ultra Wash 2 for $90 used is overpriced? The lady doesn't know how old it is. Wasn't hers. But, she was told by another person that it looked like a newer model. It is all black. The door has 2 good size big scratches. I don't know if you can replace those panels and how much they would be. Any help would be great!:o

I don't have any information about replacing the panels other than touching them up with paint or something else. I like to think of function before considering the looks of a machine.

Seems to me that if the washer is working well, $90.00 would seem a reasonable price to pay for it.

Both my washer and dryer were purchased second hand. One was $100.00. The other was about the same price. Is the going price for those items around where I live. They have given me many years of good service.

I would trust the advice that it looks like newer model.

I wouldn't buy it if it has digital controls. I am still in the electromechanical dark ages personally. I lurk here in appliances but don't answer too many questions. Part of the reason is that many of them are about the digital controls that I know nothing about and nobody else is helping much either. The more I read on the newer appliances, the more I want to keep my old ones going as long as I can find the occasional part I need. We still have a 1973 Kenmore gas dryer.

SEABIRD, if the machine works and you don't see a touchpad on the headboard, I would also say, "Buy It!"
Good Luck!

Labman, for not being an appliance tech, you are right on the money with your suggestions. I totally agree with you about the newer electronic controls on all appliances instead of the mechanical timers and switches. I got into the appliance business in 1970 and can honestly say that the industry has made it more complicated and more repair prone the newer the appliances have gotten. Now they put on so many more electronic parts and boards that in the past were handled by a simple electro-mechanical switch. Does it get the clothes cleaner? Does it dry them faster? Does an oven cook better? NO, no and no! But it costs the consumer a lot more money for repairs now!
