Hi, I have a 6 month old Schnauzer/Lab that we rescued and she's sweet as can be. This is our first dog and I don't know if she needs more grooming other than her pads and private areas trimmed? She has medium length wire wavy hair. She presents more like a Schnauzer and doesn't shed but I had no idea if her hair will keep growing or if her coat should be groomed as Lab (regular brushing) or like a Schnauzer (full grooming). Any ideas?
Thanks

If she presents more like a schnauzer I would suggest having her groomed like one. Yes, their coat grows out until she would look like a bouvier (part of what the schnauzer breed is). She is a terrier partially and won't need a lot of brushing. Good breed, and you have the best of both, intelligent and playful and loyal.

I couldn't access your pic but have a pretty good idea what she looks like. Google Schnauzer so you can see what she will be groomed like.

If you're a calm person, with a lot of patience, you can groom her yourself. I had a lab cross, and a border collie cross that I shaved every year during the summer. They were both black coated, with thick fur. Normally a lab only needs brushing. Shaving was great for my dogs, and by the time fall came around, they were just as fluffy as they were before being shaved.

If you're going to do it yourself, invest in a pro shaver for pets. I used a wahl for humans. I had to stop for an hour every 15 minutes because it overheated, couldn't take the amount of work I was making it do. It also wasn't that easy with that shaver.

The pet shaver will cost you a bit more in the beginning, but it will save you not only money, but a lot of time and effort in the long run.
