Greetings,

Problem: Leaky toilet supply shut-off valve.

I shut off the supply to replace the flapper. Since re-opening the shut-off valve it is dripping slightly. My house was built in the 40's. I have been there for almost 20. The valve pre-dates me so it is quite old. It does not leak when completely shut. I went to my local Home Depot to look for a replacement and that section of the store is a complete mess and it didn't look like they had what I needed for replacement, i.e. a 5/8" OD threaded supply right angle 3/8" compression output valve.

Since it is a modest leak and only leaks when open I'm wondering if simply tightening the value could stop the leak.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Usually, it is the "nut" as shown in John's visual above. Take Channel Locks and give it 1/4 turn. It should stop leaking. Back to you. Milo
