On April 18th, 2014, I had sex with my boyfriend and found out that the condom broke after we had finished. This was also the first day of my period. Can I take a pregnancy test today?

Why take a test if, as your post says, you are pregnant. Or is this a question about possibly being pregnant?

I agree.. if you know you are pregnant what are you testing for?

If that's a typo... you have to wait six more weeks (two weeks beyond when the next one is due) to test and find out. And I'd recommend learning how to handle and store condoms properly until then.

I'm 53... I've never managed to break one unintentionally yet... but then I don't keep them in my wallet, car glovebox... or buy them from gas station vending machines.

If April 18 was the first day of your period, then you next period isn't due until the middle of May. That would mean you have to wait until the end of May (assuming you don't get your period by then) to start testing.

I'm also assuming that you miswrote the title of your post and that you don't actually know that you are pregnant or not.

I would keep taking it every day for the next five days. Even though you weren't fertile at the time, sperm stays in the body for several days. Furthermore, ovulation doesn't always happen the same time every month. Good luck.

Taking what? A Pregnancy test? She hasn't even missed a period yet! There is no point of taking a test until she missed a period.

It would be very unlikely, but not impossible, for you to have gotten pregnant from sex on the first day of your period. Odds would be greater if you were at the end of your period only because some women ovulate earlier in a cycle than the norm, and some have shorter cycles than the norm. Also, as was said, it is possible to have an off cycle where you happen to ovulate outside the time you usually might... although most women will follow a fairly regular pattern for their individual cycle.

You can only get pregnant if you are close (usually within a few days) to ovulation when you have sex. So, for example, you ovulate and then have sex 5 days later, you could not become pregnant from that encounter as ovulation has already occurred for that cycle.

If you are wanting to test anyway, you could try a test early next week, as it would put you a couple of weeks or so passed a time of ovulation that would have been needed in order for a pregnancy to occur from sex on the 18th.

If it is negative, which it most likely will be, then see what happens when your period is due in May as smoothy and ScottGem suggested.
