Remodeling the kitchen. Took down old light fixture and removed second (switch loop) switch and capped off all three wires.

Replaced fixture - wired (fixture/power) white/white, black/red, capped the black
Replaced the switch (now the only switch left since removing the second switch).
It is three-way wired according to instructions.

Light stays on when switch is operated. Ugh.

You are going to have to be more explicit. It sounds like you are converting the light from being controlled by two 3-way switches to a single 2-way "on/off" switch - correct?

Capped off red, white and black wires in the light fixture box that run to the old 3-way switch that you are cutting out of teh circuit, right?

Replaced the switch (now the only switch left since removing the second switch).

You replaced the 3-way that remains with a standard 2-way On/Off switch, correct?

It is three-way wired according to instructions I don't follow - it sounds like you installed a new 3-way in place of an old 3-way - why? How did you connect it?
