Need to install a pressure regulating valve (which is brass) in an ABS supply pipe just after a water meter. Pipe is 1 inch, and so is valve. The guy at Home Depot, set me up with two brass barb fittings to make the connection. Told me to heat the pipe a little and then connect the barb, using two pipe clamps.

Im pretty handy, but I've never attempted this type of fix.

Was the Home Depot guy giving me good info?

Thanks!

Are you sure that you don't mean PVC? We have never used ABS for water pipe. I have to assume that the brass regulator has a 1" female threaded opening.
Purchase a plastic 1" threaded male adapter, some Teflon tape and some glue. Take the threads as to the adapter into the brass regulator. Now glue the pipe to the adapter and your connection is made. Good luck, Tom

Ditto, never saw ABS as supply. What color is pipe? If black, could be polyethylene, particularly if heated and pressed over barbs as store indicated.
