Some mild cramping can be normal in early pregnancy. Some women may even have a bit of spotting or light bleeding, but generally any cramping should not be severe and bleeding is not usually heavy or prolonged. While this bleeding may occur, it isn't a period. Periods end during pregnancy. Any severe cramping or bleeding should be reported to her doctor or midwife. Certainly anytime something new happens, it is worth a phone call to the doctor or midwife for the peace of mind.

If she hasn't already had the pregnancy confirmed by her doctor or midwife, it would be wise to do so and for her to begin her prenatal care. Congratulations! Wishing you both a smooth pregnancy!
