Have you ever heard of a no jail order? I was told by the judge today that if he issued a no jail order that he didn't have to appoint the publc defenders office. They gave me a pirce of paper stating that even if foung guilty I would not get jail time for this charge. Forida, pasco couty, not guilty plea to a leaving the scene of an accident without providing info. I was not assigned a public defender and I received a pretrial court date

Yes, in many states, you will not be assigned a free or public defender if there is no chance of any jail time.

The "right" to an attorney is limited and can even depend upon state rules.

At first and for years, the right to an attorney was only for crimes held in Federal Court but later the Supreme Court using the 14th Amendment required it upon the states, but then only for Felonies. At that time, Misdemeanors were not included at all with the right to an attorney. That was added later but then restricted only to those crimes that can result in jail time. So if your right to liberty ( one of the protections) is not restricted, they do not have to assign an attorney.

So this is correct
