On behalf of my elderly mother I am querying the need if any to change the name on the deeds of the house now that my father has passed away - my mother is his beneficiary in his will ?

How is the property titled now? If she is not listed as a Joint Tenant with right of Survivorship, then it may be necessary to submit the will for probate and have the executor issue a new deed in her name.

I highly recommend that your mother have the deed changed to be in her name. Otherwise tax bills will be in the wrong name, there may be issues with homeowner's insurance, and when she passes it's going to be a nightmare for the executor of her estate to either sell the property or distribute it to her heirs.

As Scott indicated, how OP will be able to so change the title depends upon whether title is now shown as JTWROS. If it is not so titled, OP will probably have to file an application with the probate court.
