Hello:
I need a copy of my credit report. Apparently, there is some difficulty in identifying me at the 3 bureaus. I tried to get one a few years ago, but they wanted me to send affidavits, and stuff that I wasn't interested in doing. So I didn't.
Today, I get a call from a collection agency trying to collect on a credit card that I never had. So, I tried again. I went to the annual FREE credit report from the 3 bureaus... Same thing. They don't know me and want me to contact the bureaus directly. I don't wanna DO that.
Nonetheless, I NEED a copy of my credit report, and I DON'T want to give the credit bureaus all sorts of NEW information. I don't like that the ONLY person who CAN'T get a copy of my credit report, is ME!
What about if I went to a car dealer and offered him $50 to run it? Why SHOULDN'T I do that?

What info are they asking for? You should only need to give them name, DOB and SSN.

What about giving them old information: name, SS#, etc. as of the date when the obligation was supposedly incurred?
And has any of this changed?

No reason not to, as far as I know. But methinks it would draw a blank too.

Make sure of what the FULL name of the person that had the debt is when they call, have them tell YOU everything... I had that happen and they had the wrong middle name... and apparently pulled my name out of the phone book... make them give YOU the supposed SSN and DOB and address of that person too... it might be someone altogether different.
I told them in no uncertain terms... that that wasn't my full name... that wasn't my SSN... and it wasn't my DOB, it wasn't even my address so they should stop wasting time calling me.
Took a few times of them calling me before I got them to stop... I think the last time I was really ticked off and told them it wasn't me... and if they don't like it try and serve me... I'd sue them for lost wages for the time I'd have to take off work.. and the value of my time... and if I got one more call from them I'd be reporting them for harassment because I am not the person who owes them and they know it... because the only thing that matched was first and last name... NOTHING else did. I never heard from them again.
Now if they have a correct full name, SSN and stuff... then you have been a victim of identity theft, and that can be a really bad mess to be in.
As far as why the credit agencys are refusing to give you everything... I've never heard of that happening except in very young people that don't have a credit history yet.. which I know is not the case for you.

How to Get All 3 Credit Reports for Free | eHow (http://www.ehow.com/how_4478494_get-all-3-credit-reports.html)
I just Googled free credit reports.
I have had a free account for years to keep track of everything that's in my name reported to the 3 major credit report companies. Did I mention FREE.
Did you also know that any outside request or credit inquiry affects your credit negatively? A car dealer is not a good way to find your credit report and they may not even go through all 3 of the agencies.

I sell cars through financing. When someone applies for a loan, I run it through the 2 companies that I use for financing. One kicks back a credit report from Experian. The other only gives me a "fluff" report that doesn't tell me much. I assume they don't really need me to know how it works out.
If you go to a dealer and apply, you could end up with a report but probably only from one company. Of course, it's possible you end up with just a fluff report that contains nothing useful other than "approved" or "rejected for: "

I used to do credit repair. This is not uncommon but my suggestion is to mail all 3 agencies name, and last 2 addresses, Dob and copy of SS card.thats all you should need "UNLESS" someone accessed your info to obtain a CC. IF SO then you under federal guidelines must prove who you are in order to delete the false information. THEN dispute any bad info writing and mail back to each agency.
Tell the collection agency you want a copy of the ORIGINAL SIGNATURE of the CC application and documents within 30 days. Get their name, and state "Stop contacting you anywhere anyplace at anytime". Per federal law they must leave you alone for 30 days until you request in writing that they stop attempting to collect from you. They have NO RECOURSE but to take you to court. Where you can fight them with the same arguemnt
Tell them or the courts to SHOW PROOF WITHOUT A DOUBT that this is your card. That your used it and you are responsible for the debt.
NOW _debt lives in "purpituity" meaning that the debt never goes away. The collection will prob sell the account to another. And guess what, your getting phone calls again.. and the process starts all over. Good luck
