Bought a self built berm home from persons with no restrictions nor inspections. Now, we have had new waterline installed up to 12 feet from house and connected to old. My stool and lavartory seems to develop mold where the water comes into the items. Is this because of mold in my pipes?

Mold in Water Pipes

Generally speaking, it is not likely mold could survive in your water pipes since mold needs water, oxygen and an organic food source as well as an agreeable temperature to grow. Usually water supply pipes are pressurized so the water is moving and is sometimes quite hot. However, it is possible for mold spores to pass through water pipes if the water is coming from a mold-contaminated source. Mold can grow on the outside of a water pipe and around pipes, which may be an indicator of a leak.



Drains

Although it would be difficult for mold to grow inside water pipes, it can be found quite often growing inside of drainage pipes. Especially in bathtubs and showers, where humidity levels are usually higher and all the conditions for mold production are present, many people struggle to fight aggressive mold growth in their drains and drainage pipes. This mold is perfectly normal but still should be removed on a regular basis.

Yeah, more likely as a result of mold in the bathroom somewhere besides the water pipes.

I agree, more likely from the home rather than the water. Try putting some water in a china owl covered with Saran wrap. If there is mold in your water it will grow in the bowl within 48 hours.

I do not have mold anywhere else within that bath. Another bath was put in later and has no problems with this. This is why I thought perhaps something in the piping was amiss. The only mold I have is within my bath, in the water outlets of toilet and the rims of the sink and tub drains. Although, under my shower ensemble there is a dirt floor... don't know why. Perhaps an after thought of pouring a slab for this berm home? I picked the wrong bath perhaps!

Are there vent fans of any type near these places that the mold has appeared?

There is no vent in this bathroom.

No matter where it came from, its time for a thorough clean up. I like the experiment with the bowl of water. May be more will be revealed later.
