If there was no provision or insurance to cover his death, you owe the bank.
** someone has to pay the bank.
As for as whose name it is in, you are the heir to the property, so if you wish to keep the property, you will have to pay for it.

Is the bank seeking immediate payment of the loan? Is it seeking to foreclose a mortgage (or similar security interest) on the apartment (what in the US would be called a condominium)? Is the property in Cyprus?
