This was a hilarious movie about an down and out farmer who lives with his Daddy and they sit all day in front of their barn wondering why life is so difficult and since they are basically illiterate and lazy, they can't think for a way to make any money.
They hit on an idea to have the younger man run for public office... and he puts up a little sign on his broken fence. One by one neighbors join the fray and advertise for him and it escalates until he is finally elected. So very timely. Now he will be on a gravy train for life.
