My daughter is a type one diabetic. She is 29 weeks pregnant with her second child. She called me saying she is having a large amount of fluid leak, enough to soak through her clothing and it is getting worse. Every time she stands up it sort of gushes. I know she needs to see a doctor immediately. My question is is this too early for the baby to be born if her water has broken? She is completely freaking out. Any help would be appreciated. Just to add her first child was three weeks early and is amazingly fine.

The child will be premature but there is a high rate of survival at that gestational age. The child will probably not suffer any complications but when you have something that's being delievered at 2 or so pounds, anything could go wrong. The child will be in the hospital for a couple months until it can survive on it's own on your breast milk.

I hope she's at the hospital as we speak here. I really hope everything turns out good.

While this baby would be extremely premature, there is a high survival rate at this age.

The key here is getting her to the hospital immediately to be assessed.

No doubt your daughter has already gone to the hospital; good thoughts that everything has gone well. In those types of situations, there is sometimes the chance that the pregnancy can be prolonged to allow baby a bit more time.
