My husband and I recently decided to start trying for a baby. I stopped taking the pill (after being on it for 6 yrs and some of that time I took pills 3 months straight) and got my period 3 days later. I am unsure my normal cycle, but based on a 28 day cycle, I took a test 5 days before it should come and it was negative. Everyday I have been waiting and watching for my period to come, but it never does. I ham 36 days since the 1st day I bleed last, could this be that I am pregnant and just took the 1st test too soon or is it likely because of the pill?

You have to wait until you are at least 14 days late for your period to test... and you aren't that late yet. Earlier tests will often return a negative even if you might be.

As well coming off birth control pills will cause some period irregularities while your body starts to regulate your cycle again. While on birthcontrol your cycle was heavily regulated by the hormones in the pill. Your body adapts in its own special way to those hormones. Now that they're not there any more, your body needs to ramp up its own hormone production. What that all means is that your cycle is going to be a little off for the next month or two. It will all get back to normal though, don't worry about that.

Yes, to all questions. You could be pregnant, it is testing to early, and yes it is possible that your period will need a month or two to straighten out.

It can often take a couple, 12 months or more to conceive after coming off birth control. So just wait, if no period in about 2 week, take the pregnancy test, using first urine of the morning.
