Although it is functioning well otherwise and 'Standby' functions normally most of the time my Windows Vista Laptop has recently started to crash frequently when put on 'Standby' then, after a few minutes, it restarts from scratch.
Now, I am never sure that 'Standby' will function normally or not.

Hi there

Firstly Update the BIOS then go into standby...

Still crashing, then go into your BIOS and Disable or Enable "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)" or Advanced Power Management (APM). Restart and try again...
(To access BIOS, Shut Down. Powerup and press on of the following keys... )
(Esc, F2, F10, F12, Del)

Still doing the same, try one of the following updates...

A Windows Vista-based computer stops responding when you resume the computer from hibernation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928135/en-us)
You have problems after you resume a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929734/en-us)
Error message in the Usbhub.sys process when you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation: "STOP 0x00000044" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930570/en-us)

Hope this helps.
