Hi

I have an ASUS K72F laptop running Windows 7, and it has always worked fine with both wired and wireless connections. I recently changed Internet provider from BT to Plusnet, though I cannot be sure that this is when the problem began.

It still works fine when wired, but when I switch the wireless on and unplug the ethernet cable, it says that there is a strong connection to the network with internet access, and I am able to find the router by putting http://192.168.1.254/ into the browser, but I cannot load any Internet pages on any browser, and cannot use any other Internet apps like Skype. The wireless works fine on another laptop and on my phone - it is just on this Asus laptop.

I have tried searching for posts of various forums - but have just ended up using command prompt to ping Google (it was not successful) and running a utility called winsockfix, which made no difference. I have scanned for malware and virus - I have removed a couple, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks

Guy

Did you also receive a new wireless router with the new ISP? If so, you would need to setup the wireless profile for the new wireless router.

Tricky one.

I am suspecting a Proxy server settings or a IP addresses settings.

First see if you have a Proxy Address settings enabled on your browser and disable it.
Internet Explorer - Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab, LAN Settings, then uncheck use proxy server for your LAN.

Still not working, change your Wifi adapter's IP Address settings to automatic.
Open Control Panel, open Network and Sharing Center. On left find Change Adapter Settings. Find the wifi adapter.
Now Right Click on it and select "Properties"
Double click on Internet Protocol V4.
Now select both Obtain IP and DNS automatically.
Click OK and Close.

Still not working?
Go back to the wifi's IP settings page.
Untick Obtain IP / DNS address automatically and Use the following IP Address:

IP: 192.168.1.123
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

Still not working then your Firewall Might be blocking traffic on the Wifi adapter.
Uninstall and install your anti virus.
