I don't mean to sound harsh but this dog will probably suffer and die if you don't get it to a vet. When you took the dog, you took the responsibility of taking care of it....not having money for the vet is a poor excuse and is not justification for allowing an animal to suffer and die.

Call around and see if the vets will take payments. Sell stuff. Borrow money. Do something.

We cannot help you online and there is no magical cure...vet or suffer....those are your options.

Could have worms since you don't have money for a vet. Worms will eventually kill the dog if you don't take him to a vet. Call vets all over your county to see if any are will to help. Maybe these folks Clayton County Humane Society (http://www.claytoncountyhumane.org/) will help, call them

Please sell things, rework bills, borrow money, make payment arrangements, get a loan, take another job on etc to get the dog to a vet NOW. Do whatever you have to do to get the dog to a vet, you owe the dog that. If you can not do that then give the dog up to someone who can. The poor soul is suffering and needs medical attention.

I agree, I am going to sound very harsh, but people who can not afford ccare of their pet, do not need to own one.

The poor animal will suffer for this.

Find a way and get dog to the vet.

I have to point out that the OP did mention that he's willing to release the dog to someone that can give the dog the help it needs. At least that's how I read his post. That takes a lot of love, to give up an animal you obviously love, just so it can get the help it needs.

I too don't agree that anyone should have a pet unless they can afford to care for it. I spout that advice on this site more often than I answer pregnancy questions. The thing is, you can't pull money out of your butt. It's a horrible time of year, most people are broke. Also, getting to a vet this time of year is almost impossible, which leaves the emergency vets, which will cost you up to 3 times more than a regular vet.

My vet charges $150 just to walk through the door, without any tests, any diagnosis, just for the pleasure of him/her looking at my animal. I don't have anything in my house that I could sell quickly to even get that amount of money.

This is a young dog, not eating. Sounds like it could be a blockage (but that's just a guess) and left untreated, the dog will die a slow, painful death. If I'm right and it is a blockage, it will likely require surgery. We're talking possibly thousands in vet bills. Do any of you have that stashed away? Do any of you have items in your house that you could sell to make thousands of dollars? I know I don't.

Not making excuses for the OP, and normally I would rip him a new one, but fact is, I know how it feels. Most people that love dogs and have them in their lives, don't have thousands of dollars stashed away just in case their dog gets sick. Most of us live pay check to pay check, and do our very best to care for the animals we love.

So, my advice to the OP, if he can't find a way to get the money for a vet, either by selling things, borrowing the money, or taking out a loan, is to go to his nearest humane society.

It's very easy for us to say "take him to the vet", when the person asking has absolutely no way to do that.
