My dad has always been a hateful person.. I haven't talked to him in a while because every time I talk to him he is ignorant.. am I horrible because I don't talk to him.. everyone says its because of my stepmother

No, people get treated they way they treat others.

I went years without seeing my mom and dad because of problems with my mom. And I still only see her about once a year. I do call her regularly for a few mintues, but that is it.

So call and talk a short time about fluff, don't give him a chace to fuss and if he starts come up with a reason to havve to hang up.

We tend to think that our parents are flawless and righteous but parents are still people and people can be misguided, mean, and hateful. So, don't feel guilty that you disagree with your father's ideas and his behaviors. It is OK that you avoid him since you don't agree with each other, but, still be respectful to him. We live in a world that is very different from what our parents grew up in and were taught about, so it is inevitable that we think and act differently.
