We live in a 2-story house with no basement and no crawlspace. Whenever the outside temperature drops to 20 or below, we get a sewer gas smell throughout the lower level of our house. We already checked the roof vent pipe and all is good with it. We already had the gas company check the inside & outside of the house and all is good. We already had a plumbing team out and they checked the inside & outside of the house and all is good. As soon as the weather warms up to 40 degrees, the sewer gas smell is gone. Unfortunately, we live in Chicago and the weather is going to be in the 20's for the next few weeks. Please advise & thanks.

Sewer gas rises with heat and falls with cold. Are you on city sewer or septic tank? Back to you, Tom

Hi Tom,

We are on a city sewer system. No septic at all. We had another plumber out yesterday and he suggested we get a Turbine Exhaust Fan to place over the plumbing roof stack to help pull the gases through? If that did not get rid of the sewer gas smell in the house, he suggested getting heated tape to wrap around the pipe in the attic leading to the roof stack?

It is 9 degrees right now in Chicago, I hope it is sunny & warm in Florida for you.
