I am trying to connect my ceiling fan to a wall switch for operation. House wiring is black, copper, white and red; Fan wiring is black, green, white and blue.

I connected black-black, white-white, green-green-copper, blue-red; the wall switch does not appear to power the fan... any suggestions?

You will have to post back with more information. Is it a 2-3 speed fan with the black and blue leads connecting to separate motor windings? Does the fan have a light too? Is the switch a 3-4 position switch meant to control a multiple speed motor? Did you install the switch and wiring for the fan, or were they for a light that was there? Let me know, and maybe I can figure it out. This forum works well in these cases.

The Fan is a 3-speed Hampton Bay that I installed into a ceiling fan pre-wire. It has an optional light add-on, but I do not plan to install it. The switch was already established, presumably to be linked to the fan pre-wire. The fan works but only by the chain. The blue wire from the fan is the light wire and so I attached it to the red wire, even though I have no intention of using the light.

You have to connect the blue and the black wire from your fan to the red wire in the box,and the white with the white. Good luck

Since you don't plan on using the light, try the wiring suggested above, see if it works.

Try reversing Black and red connections.

You wouldn't want the blue wire connected to the black, because then you would have a constant hot on the light wire. Either connect both the fan's black and blue to the red, or leave the blue disconnected.
