Drain pipe from kitch backed up. My 15 ft. snake could not reach clog. Plumber called and his snake pulled back mud. Said not a clog, but pipe was broken.
Cost to break floor to location where newer(home addition) drain line runs $180 per linear foot($2600). Cost to take kitchen drain OVER basement ceiling into drain BEFORE it goes into floor and capping old pipe beneath floor($1750).
ANY reasons NOT to leave the old pipe beneath floor still having water in it? ANY reasons for leaving old pipe beneath floor having the possibility(very slight) of filling with water from OTHER end and remaining beneath floor?
One plumbing bid says the water left could create a 'void' beneath the basement. Area of home is atop clay mines, soil is clay 95%. House has been piered back in '92.
