There was a movie set during the American Civil war that came out in the late 60's. It was principally about a love triangle between a woman and two brothers. I think the brothers fought on opposite sides of the war, but I don't remember for sure. The one thing I remember most prominently is the tune of the theme song, which started with something like, "Amy, you only kissed me once. Amy, ..." I heard that song that one time and I never forgot the tune. I was impressed with the movie, too, but since at such a young age, my tastes have certainly changed (Roman Holiday doesn't have near the impact as when I was 6 years old, as does neither The Wizard of Oz, or The Time Machine!) But, if anyone remembers this movie, could they help me out? thanks!

Are you thinking of the Blue and the Grey? It was a miniseries but not from the time period you mentioned.

I'm pretty sure it was a screen film, about 1968 or 69. Thanks for your reply, though!

Here's a possibility:

Gunfight in Abilene (1967)
starring Bobby Darin (who wrote and performs the song "Amy"), Michael Sarrazin, Emily Banks, Leslie Nielsen
IMDb synopsis:
Fighting in the Civil War, a man accidentally kills his friend. Returning to Abilene after the war, he finds his former sweetheart about to marry the brother of the man he killed. To pay his debt, he not only refuses to win her back but also takes the job of sheriff, a job he doesn't want, when the brother asks him. Still haunted by the killing, he refuses to carry a gun. But, there is trouble between the ranchers and the farmers. And. When he finds the brother murdered, he straps on a gun and heads after the killer.

That it! Wow, and Thanks a million! A simple western for which I couldn't remember the name - had me wondering all these years and years. Too bad the review I saw on Youtube painted such an awful picture of the acting, plus it's not available on YouTube for viewing. I remember it being very sad... Anyway, I'm in your debt!

You're welcome! I haven't seen the movie for many years~decades, in fact; so, my memory doesn't tell me if it's good or bad. But, I always remembered that melancholy song by Bobby Darin.

I'm so happy that I could help!
