I woke up last night to my dog uncontrollably shaking. I don't know what happened or if it was seizures.

I'm very sorry, but there's really no way for us to tell you what happened either. It could have been a seizure, it could have been something else. If you're concerned your best bet is to take him to a vet.

More than likely it could have been a seizure. You should make an appointment with your vet right away so that they can take a look at your dog, get a history and document that your dog had a seizure.

Testing and medications typically won't be introduced until the seizures are more often. If this is your dogs first seizure, the vet may ask you a series of questions about the dogs health, what type of food it is eating and activity level. All play a very important part in diagnosing epilepsy.

If this is a small dog, they are very prone to low blood sugar which will also cause seizures. So your vet or the nurse will talk to you about protocols to ensure your dog is eating regularly or what to do next time it happens.

But like I stated previously, you really need to speak with your vet about this. Just because this is the first time you have seen the dog shake, doesn't mean that this has been the only time. A good history and look over well help establish a beginning for your dog just in case this very serious.
