View Full Version : Why am I being mistreated because I want to do AI instead of an IUI?

Hi, I'm 26 years old and I'm trying to conceive me 1st child by a sperm donor because I do not have a partner, I have a cryobank I'm planning to use in California as soon as I can but I have to have a physician release form signed before I can have anything shipped to my home, I want to do AI at home instead of having to go through the expenses of seeing a fertility doctor and paying a lot of money for them to refuse to help me, the cryobank I'm using told me that the forms have to be signed and verified to show them that I'm seeing a doctor to help me but I'm going through A LOT of trouble getting a doctor to sign the paper so I can do it myself at home, I went to a local OBGYN yesterday and I told him once I wanted to just do it at home but he ignored me, he was very unprofessional the whole time I was with him, cracking vulgar jokes at my expense, he didn't suggest doing any type of bloodwork that would even suggest if I was ovulating or not, he didn't do a physical exam and didn't offer any medications to help my rate of success go up, he just acted like all he cared about was the money, why am I having such a difficult time finding someone that will allow me to do artificial insemination at home? I shouldn't be having to go through all of this hell just because I'm single, I'm perfectly healthy and was pregnant once but had a miscarriage because I'm RH- or that's what I was told but besides that I am able to become pregnant, it just seems like no one wants to help me, what should I or what do I need to do? Every doctor I've asked to try to help me has looked at me like I'm crazy or weird, I feel like an idiot

If you wish to use a sperm bank... you have to follow their procedures and rules.
They are regulated and HAVE to follow procedures and guidlines themselves.
I can see a lot of attitude in the words you chose to use in this post...and perhaps if they saw the same thing that plays a large factor in how they interacted with you.

I understand that but finding a doctor that's willing to do it is a different story, I'm just frustrated because they all say that they can't do it

Then you keep looking... eventually you will find one. If it appears you are in a huge rush...it also makes it appear to be something of an impulse decision and not one thats been thought out.

And yesterday the doctor used this phrase when telling me about one of his past patients, he said "I knocked this one girl up that came to see me a few years ago" that's why I said he wasn't very professional

That's all a matter of opinion and perspective.
Keep in mind you don't know what relationship they have, they might know each other well enough to crack all sorts of jokes. Jokes can lighten an otherwise stressful situation... and also remember that they are just as human as you or I.

Very true, of course I don't know, I may have just noticed because I was a little nervous, everybody does that when they're nervous about something, notices little things that don't matter

AI is not a do it yourself process. I'm guessing you are planning on what is often called the turkey baster method. Where sperm is collected in a tube, inserted into the vagina and squirted from there.
And I don't believe that satisfies the requirements of the sperm banks.

The cryobank I'm using allows shipments to patients homes but only with the physicians signature, thank you all for trying to help me, I'm going to keep looking for a specialist that does IUI's near me
