My sump pump water level is above pump . I am not sure if my pump is sermersable or not . It's a pit viper pump 115v . Now when it rains I go down to see if its even working I live in a semi and neighbour says hers is going off all time? With mine I here a quiet humming sound? And my house is also plumbed to sewer drain? Why would people do this if its against code? Am I looking at a lot of money spending to fix problem??

With out a model number no can say for sure with out seeing it.

My sump pump water level is above pump .

That would indicate that it is submersible. With a pedestal type the motor sits a couple feet above the floor.

And my house is also plumbed to sewer drain? Why would people do this if its against code?

Because it's easier. It is against most codes because the municipality doesn't want to process the rain water as sewage. Don't tell anyone but I have one like that in a piece of rental property. It is in the rear of the house and the ground in back is such that to pump it out to the rear would mean that it will only run back in. There is no where for it to drain. It would have taken considerable effort to pump it to the front.

If you are not getting water coming into your house it must be working.
