Hi,
My busband and I are green card holders residing in MA.. We are trying for adoption from a local agency in India (our country of origin). The requirement is such that I will have to stay in India for 2 years to complete the process.
My question is will I lose my green card status if I stay outside the country for that long or is there a way to go about it without losing my status?
Thanks in advance

Yes you will most likely.

You will need to submit form I-131 for re-entry permit. Make sure you get an approval before leaving.

The maximum validity of a re-entry permit is 2 years. So even if you get a re-entry permit, you will only be able to stay outside for just under 2 years.
