1. Mark Twain used the characters in this novel to show his contempt for the romantic style of literature. For the two characters below, list three examples from the text that support the label for each character:

Huck Finn - Realism
Tom Sawyer - Romanticism

2. Which of the following statements best captures why Twain chose to use Huck's point of view in the novel? Choose what you believe is the strongest response. Write the letter of the answer you choose and defend your choice in one paragraph. Use at least three examples from the novel to support your ideas.

a. Huck's casual, conversational style lightens up otherwise serious events.
b. Twain wants the reader to see events through Huck's eyes.
c. The story would not keep the reader's interest if it were told from the third-person point of view.

3. Jim and Huck both decide that their relationships with their friends and loved ones are more important than their freedom, lives, and in Huck's case, his soul. Do you think modern heroes can make the same kinds of choice? In one paragraph describe a modern example of heroism and how it relates to Huck and Jim's actions. Use at least two examples from the text to support your ideas.

Never seen such a bunch of boring questions in my life. Except for maybe # 3.
