Hello All,
I had my son on 12-12-12. Prior to delivery I have never had a thyroid problem, during pregnancy I was fine as well. It was 2 months after delivery that I was diagnosed with postpartum hypothyroidism. I had chronic hives for 6 months, I cannot loose any weight what so ever, tiredness, achey joints, and other hypo symptoms. I was put on Levothyroxin 50 mcg and my blood work showed that my levels were good again, yet I still had all the symptoms. I then begged to be put on Armour.. my general doctor refused but my homeopath agreed. I felt a lot better, but still could not loose any weight and had some achey joints. After about 3 months my thyroid levels went back to hypo. SO my general doctor and homeopath put me pn Levo again but 75 MCG and Liothyronine 25 MCG. I now notice that my old symptoms are coming back when I was on Levo.. throat swelling and bad joint pain, however my energy is better. I still cannot loose weight! I exercise and eat healthy. I have not gained and have not lost. I am retaining a lot of water as well.
So my two questions are:
1. Has anyone been diagnosed with thyroiditis from having a baby and if so did you cure after your hormones went back to normal? I read that 80% of women that get this postpartum have their thyroids return to normal. If so how long?
2. Anyone with hypothyroid postpartum or not.. what is your experience with medication and what is your experience with weight loss/gain? WHat is the best medication out there in your case? Generic or name brand?
I also want to mention that I am still breast feeding. One of my many doctors thinks that I will not loose any weight until I am done breastfeeding. That for some you loose weight while breastfeeding, but some hang onto it. Regardless of losing weight I will still breastfeed for the full year, I just want some hope at the end of the tunnel. I was 130 and have been stuck at 163 on a 5'3 frame.
Besides weight though, I have a lot of other not so happy symptoms from this thyroid issue so that is why I want some opinions and feedback. I just want to feel human again.. I want to feel good.
Thank you all :)
