How can I evict my boyfriend living in my house in VA who refuses to leave?

VA Police indicate that since my boyfriend is a resident of my home he has a right to be there. Does he have recourse if I simply change the locks or do I need to legally evict him?

If he isn't on any tenancy agreement, change the locks when he is out, and put his stuff into storage for a month so he can colLect it!

If he contributes to the household bills, you need to serve him with a notice to vacate and follow up with a formal eviction. Here is a link that can help you with the format of the vacate notice:

Landlord's Notice to Vacate - Free Legal Form (http://www.ilrg.com/forms/vacate.html)

With all legal issues, it is best to seek the advice of an attorney.

If he does not contribute any monies to the household at all, you can change the locks. But, you are legally responsible for ensuring that he receives all of his belongings.

First, when adding a follow-up please use the Quick Reply/Answer this question option. Don't start a new thread. I've requested your two threads be combined.

Second, you really need to provide more info here. You say its your house. Do you own it or are you renting? If renting, are you the only one on the lease? Did you ever enter into a lease with the boyfriend? Does he have proof that he contributed monetarily to the household?

Generally, if he can prove that he's a tenant and has be formally evicted.
