I bought a house with a Hunter ceiling fan with remote (no light). I went to the store and purchased a light to go with it. The instructions on the light say that I have to dismantle the entire remote system by unplugging it, but I don't see where I can do this. There are 2 black boxes with wires coming into them, but I cannot disconnect them, and I cannot get the wires out of them.

So, for the light, there are 2 wires, white and black with white tracer. The white wire looks connected to the remote mechanism. However, the black wire looks like it is not connected to the remote. So, I connected the white and black wires, and the light didn't work at all (but the fan still worked).

I cannot find the wall switch that goes with the fan--it seems to have no wall switch and only works with the remote control. Can a ceiling fan remote only activate the fan, and the light cannot be activated from it?

How can I get the light to work? What do I need to do? The Hunter fan was probably installed no more than 3-4 years ago. Thank you!!

The nice thing about this forum is that it is easy for somebody else to fill in more after I have given what help I can. If the fan was a retrofit, they may not have bothered with a wall switch. Or, if there was a wall switch, somebody may have bypassed it and not known it violated code to drywall over the box. If you want a switch, look closely about 4' feet up the wall near the doorways. You may find evidence of a patch.

If nobody else here can help with the remote, try asking for help where you bought the light. Also try to find a Hunter website or email.
