We have a ceiling leak on first floor. Leak is not directly below the washroom. Turned off the water on toilet did not stop. No water in washroom

Water travels meaning leak doesn't have to show directly under upstairs bathroom. Is it continuous leak or does it leak only after somebody used water upstairs ? Back to you. Milo

I don't see where you have much choice but to open up the ceiling and trace the water back to its source. Once you've located the source we could be to repair.
Let me know what you find. Good luck, Tom

It does not seem to be when we use the toilet etc. it was not raining
We have 2 bathrooms upstairs they are almost across each other. How do I know if there are pipes over my dining room. We shut the toilet it kept leaking. After we shut all the water it stopped. Now we put back the water it did not start again.

Let's see if we can nail it down. Your problem sounds more like a drainage leak than a pressure leak. Study with one bathrooms fill the tub with a few inches of water and let it drain. Keep watching the ceiling. For moisture. If you see no moisture then turn a shower are and check That. Do that with each fixture in each bathroom and tell you see moisture on the ceiling.
What we are doing is eliminating each fixture one by one. Let me know what you find . Good luck, Tom
