I am looking at buying a used 2008 prius from a big dealership.
The Title says it has 39k and the odometer reads 33k. I have spoken with the staff and they say that the speedometer and odometer were out of sync. They said they replaced the speedometer and didn't the odometer causing the problem but they are going to fix the odometer before I buy it. Maybe I am just a little cynical, but is this too fishy of a thing? Should I be more concerned than just a replacement part would fix? What should my next steps be. I am not a car guy.

A 2008 with 39K miles? Did the previous owner ever drive it? Though it is possible... its about 7,500 miles a year... about half what the average lease allows... and less than the average driver would drive, key word being average. And a speedo failure in that same mileage? Its possible but I would say highly unlikely.

Besides if it was a new replacement... they reprogram it to the milage on the old one... in fact they legally have to match the miles on the old one.
