Hi, I have a blue ray player and have connected the HDMI cable to the TV. Everything works fine but I want to use my old amp and surround system. So I was told to use a optic cable from the TV to the old dvd player and from the old player use the RC cables to the amp. Can this work or would it rather be wise to get a digital to analog converter? Thanks, J.

Does your TV have the fiber optic cable? That's a digital audio out... hook THAT to your amp... and your DVD player through the HDMI which usually carries audio as well.

Switch your TV to the fiber outpout rahter than internal speakers... then everything will play through your amp... no matter what the material source. I do that with the sound bars on my TV's as I have multiple sources to the TV and lets everything go to the soundbar... in your case... amp and speakers.

Thanks, for the answer. Unfortuanately the amp does not have a fibre input only RC. I have the Blue ray player connected to the TV via HDMI. There is only a fibre optic out plug on the TV, the rest is all ingoing. The TV has an 'Audio Auto and PCM' selecter on the remote. That is all on the audio side except the surround settings. So I was told to run the HDMI from the Blue ray to the TV and the optical to another DVD player which has RC conecters (out) that goes to the amp. Jeezz, this sounds complicated! And just for clarity... your TV has no RCA audio outputs, only inputs... correct? Just wanting to keep it as simplified as possible and to try to avoid passing throug one device (other than the tv) just to get to another device.

A lot easier to see it than rely on an explanation (because yeah... it gets complicated real quick)

Try this... Personally I'd like to hook EVERYTHING to the TV inputs... and take the audio out from the TV to the amp... thats as simple and easy to use as I can think... they make digital optical to analog converters which will make this a lot easier for you... if you actually have no RCA jack output.

There are other places that make these... its the easiest to find one for most people in the USA... assuming you live there... if you aren't then you can find them other places as well.
