I turned my acer aspire one 722 on, then it proceeded to a window that says there is a problem with the atheros, insert cable or something... what should I do??

Atheros is a WiFi driver. You may need to reload the drivers for your network adapter.

My it friend said that I need to reformat it. We reformat it before and put the os then one day the atheros thing pop... do I really need to reformat it? Is ubuntu fine for an os? Or linux?

No I don't think you need to reformat.

Ubuntu IS Linux, with a different installer.
