I am holding a stock certificate that was awarded to me on July 28, 1994 for $5.00. Do you know if is worth anything?

It was some type of settlement, awarded to you?

It has no value - Amtrak management = worthless Amtrak stock (http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,1677367)

I had gotten as a bonus when I worked at Atlanta Casualty. Tucked it away and just found it in an envelope in the back of a file cabinet.

Here is the company information:

American Premier Underwriters Inc.

Telephone: (513) 579-6600

You can call them and ask to speak with investor relations and they should be able to answer any question you may have.

Pready, did you actually read the site I posted, the info, the history of this stock - or was it easier to simply look up the address?

JKT - I don't think your post has much to do with the value of the American Premier Underwriter's stock certificate. That company was bought out by American Financial Group (AFG), which has indeed sued Amtrak, but that doesn't mean that AFG's stock is worthless. AFG is currently trading at about $51/share.

To the OP - I suggest you contact the investor relations dept at AFG and ask whather your certificate has value. Contact info is here: American Financial Group, Inc. (AFG) - Investor Relations (http://www.afginc.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=89330&p=irol-irhome)

Here is what I read: "Amtrak is for all intents and purposes a government agency, and the stock has no value."

There are expansive explanations of the situations all over the Internet. I do not find any two sites with the same info. Here's one: "Nevertheless, in an effort to comply with the Act, Amtrak has made an offer to redeem the stock for cash at a price of $0.03 per share to the stockholders."

You are right - it appears there is or was a three cent a share value.
