I am trying to put in a new shower spout. The old one was not working and I had issues taking it off so I sawed it off. After doing so I see that there is only one inch of PVC pipe that sticks out. With my new spout there is no way to attach the pieces.

What should I do in this situation?

Most likely you will need to try to install a shower head that was exactly like your old setup.

To extend the PVC pipe install a 1/2" PVC coupling and most likely you'll need a threaded PVC MALE ADAPTER to thread into the new shower head.

If this is confusing or doesn't sound right, please post a picture of the old head, new head and the pipe coming out of the wall, OK?

Not sure how to insert an image on here...

Anyway it's just a 1/2' PVC pipe that is extended out one inch from the wall and doesn't have any threads on it...

I can't connect the old style spout because I cut off the part that connected... They glued everything together so it was impossible to take it off...

You may be out of luck here attempting to install a new shower spout using your old PVC pipe. By sawing off the old one, you've definitely compromised the threading capabilities massplumber2008 was referring too. You're may be best off seeking some professional help in order to install a new foundation pipe for your shower spout. Good luck!

Don't see PVC much in house plumbing, CPVC is usually the choice. Open the wall a bit where the stub comes through the wall. You should be able to cement a PVC or CPVC piece, depending on the pipe, onto the cut end with a coupling and then a male nipple. If it fits up, fill in the pipe hole with some pre mixed cement. 1/2" PVC is white and measures almost 3/4" in diameter. CPVC is cream colored and is about 5/8" in diameter.

They make a shower head that looks like a tub spout... allows the shower head to have MALE threads outside the wall... perfect for this application. I will try to post a picture of the part in the next day or two!
