You probably have a bug, the flu, or something else.

Pregnancy doesn't happen instantly. Any sickness you felt the day after sex, is not pregnancy related.

That's not to say that you're not pregnant. Any time you have sex, even with 2 or more forms of birth control, pregnancy is possible. So you could be pregnant. But, you being sick a day after, isn't a sign that you are, it's unrelated.

Sick how? Are you taking antibiotics for your sickness? If you are, then you need to use a backup method of birth control during the time you're taking antibiotics. The pill has been shown to be less effective when you're on antibiotics.

If you simply have a cold, and you're not missing your pills (and not puking them up), and you're not on any other medication, the pill should protect you. But, remember that the pill isn't 100% effective. There are many women on this site that were on the pill, used it correctly, also used a condom correctly, and used a third form of birth control as well, and still got pregnant. Nothing is 100%, so any time you have sex, pregnancy is a possibility, you simply lower the odds by using birth control, but you don't eliminate them.

Do you know how pregnancy works, how it happens?

There's a great video, it's fun, and informative, I'll post a link. Watch it, you'll learn how pregnancy works, and why it's impossible that you'd be feeling symptoms a day after sex.

Hey gal. Are you sure that your nerves aren't making you feel this way? Please don't get me wrong. In the meantime, take Alty's advise. Worry can indeed make you feel this way but you never ever know dear. Even though you're on the pill, make sure he uses something next time so you feel better and to be extra safe. Feel better!

There is no way pregnancy will show up or have any effect on your next day. The sperm has not even reached the egg yet, that can take 2 or 3 days. So you could not even be pregnant yet, just waiting for it to happen.

So no, perhaps, other reasons, *** that is not to say you are not pregnant, but you would not know, next day

I know it not a symptom . I meant will it work effectively if I got sick and now my period is late

Again it depends on what you mean by "got sick". Did you take your pill and then throw up? If so, you likely threw up the pill, which means it won't be effective. But just having a cold won't make the pill ineffective.

Birth control isn't an absolute thing. There are many documented cases where most, if not all, forms of Birth Control have failed. There are several members here who have gotten pregnant while on three forms of birth control.

The pill is based up repetition. Same pill, same time of the day, same dose, and it should work well. Things can get dodgy if you miss a pill or you have a longer than usual lag. Most birth control pills have a "What do I do if I miss a pill" section. I had a friend who missed a day and didn't really think about it. Her daughter is so cute.

So there might be a failure of your birthcontrol. Alty had an awesome post about Antibiotics and the like. Read through that again.

I would wait for two weeks after your missed period, to make sure it is good and missed, and take a pregnancy test.

I hope the odds are ever in your favour.

What pill are we talking about here? Is this a regular oral contaceptive? Or is this a morning after pill?

Good question. The morning after pill can definitely give you side effects, feeling sick to your stomach being one of them.

The OP still hasn't told us exactly what she means by "being sick". Throwing up? Runny nose? Sore throat? Mind numbing back pain? Cancer? What?

If you're throwing up, I'd use an alternate form of birth control for the next month or two, just to make sure you're protected.

As for the sexual episode before you became ill, of course you could be pregnant. Pregnancy is a possibility every single time you have sex, protection or no protection. You'll have to wait until your period is at least 2 weeks late, then test using first morning urine.
