My son and his wife rented a room in a large house about six months ago. Now, they have gotten a 30 day notice to move. About 3 weeks have passed and they are having a difficult time finding another place. What should they expect to happen next, will they receive an unlawful detainer? Or are the laws different when you are renting a room than when renting an apartment or house?

this is an international site, and I don't know where they are. Basically if they got a notice that they were being evicted and did not move they will be given X days and then their belongings will be thrown out. In MOST places.

As Judy said laws vary by area so without knowing where they are we can't be specific.

The general process is landlord gives them a vacate notice with a deadline to leave. If hey don't leave, the landlord goes to court for an eviction order. The court schedules a hearing to show cause why the order shouldn't be granted. This time frame will depend on the court's work load. At the hearing an eviction order will be issued unless your son can show why it shouldn't. The judge will give them a few more days to vacate at which time the landlord can hire a sheriff to physically remove them.
