View Full Version : Why won't my whirlpool washer agitate or spin

My machine will fill with water fine and then it just sits there with the water and soap will not agitate or spin.

We don't know the model but my guess would be the motor drive coupler. Fairly common to Whirlpool and Kenmore. If it doesn't spin or agitate but will pump out, it's the coupler. You Tube has plenty if tips on replacement. Parts are cheap too, many models for $10 or less.

It sounds like the water level switch is breaking the connection to water valves and failing to make the connection to the timer telling it that the machine is full and ready to wash. You need to check it with a meter to make sure. You take hose loose from switch (clear plastic hose) and attach one to use for testing and blow on hose (unplug machine first, of course) then you will hear it click and the switch will close the contacts from common to the normally open terminal and open the other one which you know works. If it's working then you may need a timer, if not, replace switch which is cheap. Attached are manuals:
