I have a home in LA, but now I work a job in MS 7/7 and the job required you to live within 50 miles. I homestead my house in LA and am buying another house in MS, can I do any type of homestead on it also? I would like to keep my DL and vehicles registered in LA, just wondering about what some people call "dual residency" and see if it's an option for me.

Residency depends on the definition, usually set out in statute, for specific benefit you are seeking.

If, as in your case, you are seeking to claim a "homestead" exemption or deduction from Mississippi real estate taxes, you should see the law (usually set out in statute) providing for the exemption. Or ask someone at the tax collector's office (the county, I suspect, in Mississippi) It may, for example require you to be a resident, and define what that means. Residency may require, for example, that you be registered to vote there or, perhaps that you be domiciled there.

Also, you should also double-check Louisiana to see that your homestead claim there is still valid.

Normally, if to claim a homestead you have to be a resident, one could only claim residency in one place. So no, "dual residence" would not apply.
