it is the beginning of June and I have been having stomach pain since the end of February. Since then, I have been really sensitive. Every little thing makes me mad. I have a boyfriend. Yet I sit here and cry for absolutely no reason. My friend thinks I might have depression. I have had a few boyfriends within these few months. At random times though I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I feel like nothing is wrong in my life, so I don't see how it could be depression. My friend thinks I'm denying it because I don't want to face the fact that I might be depressed. I am 14 years old by the way.

Is there an adult to talk to about this, maybe your mom or dad?

I feel like if I say anything to them about it, they will laugh in my face. Because there is nothing I would be depressed about. I have talked to a few friends. Thinking this could be depression or I could be bi polar. And lately its just been hard for me to talk to ANYONE.

Can you put boyfriends aside for now? At 14 you should be immersed in school and best friends. Do you crave something family and friends haven't been able to give you, the kind of love a young person needs? Can you tell us about what growing up was like, and when you first noticed the depressed feelings?

Honestly I have a great life. And I have had a perfectly fine life growing up. My dad has a lot of health issues. About 4 years ago he got open heart. He was in the hospital November 2012 and I think February of 2013. I have both my parents here for me. I have 2 sisters I talk to about everything. And I used to be the girl who ALWAYS had a boyfriend. And I started talking to this guy in February. And I went through a bunch of with him. Since 3rd grade I've been getting called fat. And still do get called fat. 7th grade year, I got called a whore on a daily basis. This year I get it occasionally. And my cabin burnt down in the winter. I started kind of feeling like this in the middle of feb. you said I should drop the boyfriends and stuff, and I was honestly considering that a few weeks ago, but I found my boyfriend, and he treats me like a princess. Me and him never fight, I have my few bestfriends which are my only REAL friends. But I'm lucky to be able to trust as many people as I can. I can trust at least 9 people. And that is really unlikely with all the fake people I have in my life. I'm really 13 but I will be 14 on Friday.

EVERYTHING makes me want to just cry. I drop my pencil and I start crying. I'm just tired of everything.

OK, that helps a lot. Unresolved feelings over circumstances (past or present) is the most common reason for feeling down, for crying, for being tired of everything - in short, depression. But the vast hormonal changes of puberty is a close second. Unfortunately this would mean having hormone levels tested.
Have your periods started? Are you willing to chart your feelings each day, writing a one-liner for each day of the month, and noting when you get each period?
Every girl and woman is different. But all share the fact that estrogen and progesterone and a few other hormones go through really huge fluctuations each month.
Most of my friends would feel awful both physically and emotionally on a semi-regular schedule that was different from mine. I felt good just before my period, and then it was all downhill to the next period.
I still think you should consider going easy on a deep relationship with a boy during all this.
