I have some very vague memories from it that maybe someone will be able to piece together. It is a hard one as I do not remember much about it.
1) It is probably a Japanese cartoon/anime that was probably made in the 80s and its in color.
2) The main character discovers some special type of crown that has special powers. When he wears it, he can see the true faces of humans if they are aliens disguised as humans.
3) I think in one of the scenes where he sees the faces of aliens is within a train/tube/metro.
4) Some scenes are probably based in space.
5) There is a scene were he needs the aliens to believe that he is dead or for some other reason he needs to stop breathing completely and possibly even stop his heart?
6) Most aliens (if not all) are evil.
7) The aliens want the crown back
8) The main story is on earth
