You should see a doctor about this as soon as you can, like today, or even now if it's possible.

In the main time, it could be any number of things. I don't have much to go on here but, because it's a stabbing pain it's most likely coming from the pleura which separates your lungs from your ribs.
The conditions that I can think of off the top of my head are pleurisy, neuritis, and possible a collapsed lung. Cancer is obviously in the back of everyone's mind with pain like this, but no worries pleural cancers are quite rare and usually have other symptoms to accompany them.
It could also be due to your kidney or even possibly your heart or major blood vessels (aneurysms usually produce a tearing pain that radiates to your back- though if you did have this, which is unlikely, you'd be dead already).

The only reason I'm telling you all of this is to express the possible severity of the situation. If you think it's bad enough you should see a physician right away- it's better to be safe than sorry!
