We have just bought a house that has a Diaphragm well tank Challenger series and the water pressure in the house is very minimal. We have replaced pressure gage and that didn't fix the problem. We have also made sure the cut-off valve opens and closes properly. There are no leaks in the pipes. Please any assistance will be welcomed.

Well, a pressure gauge only tell you what the pressure is, it does not control the pressure. The pressure is controlled by the settings of the pump pressure switch.

What kind of pump? Above ground or submersible?

What is the pressure when the pump is not running and no water is being used?

It's a submersible pump and the gauge reads 72-74 psi when pump is not running then kicks on at 52psi. The tank will not fill as well the water wants to bypass the tank altogether.

First of all that is a very high pressure but lets worry about that a little later.

Does the pressure drop drastically when you use a little bit of water?

What size is the tank?

One more question. Do you have a filter or softener on this system?

As HK said, pressure is not the problem 72# is pretty high.
