What is the safe operating temperature range of this engine?

Ambient to about 220 F +/-, depending on pressure cap rating. At standard atmospheric pressure water boils at 212 F. Each pound additional raises the BP by about 2 degrees F, so a 5# cap raises BP to about 220F.

I use the truck to haul fairly heavy loads up a very steep road, about 10 miles of constant climbing. How hot can the temperature get before damage to the engine could occur?

I presume if there is such a thing as a 10# or higher cap, eventually one simply blows a radiator hose... Do you know what # radiator cap the factory calls for?

Thank You,

Eric

Typically. 4-5#. There is a lot more to hauling than temp. Operating RPM, engine condition, oil wt used, miles on engine. If it is not overheating I wouldn't worry, those are tough engines.
