A 3 day pay or quit notice is the first step in the eviction process. If you haven't moved out or paid in full after the 3 days then the landlord files a lawsuit for eviction. If you haven't paid in full by the court date then the landlord will win a judgment and can then request that the sheriff perform an eviction.
The time for the landlord obtaining a judgment for eviction can vary but is probably in the area of 2 to 3 weeks. The landlord cannot change the locks before obtaining the judgment for eviction.

Lisa is exactly correct.
If you don't have the money to pay I suggest you check with your local social services agency for aid.

Will you tell us why you don't have the rent? Do you get a benefit at the beginning of each month, say on the third? Do you have direct deposit, which I believe is required now or is about to start?
Keep in mind that many leases state that if even if you pay the rent but it's late a certain number of times, the landlord may not renew your lease.
