Hey I am extremely curious about a cartoon that I used to watch when I was growing up. It had a plot as following: a street dog gang, most of them are tiny and amiable, the head of the gang is a detective dog who leads them into solving disputes and mysterious crimes, but mostly, the gang calms down two other dog mafia-gangs; one gang has five members which are large doberman pinchers I think, they used to wear suits in different colors each (green, blue, red, yellow, etc). And the rival gang was formed up of 3 dogs, all are huge bulldogs, one of them is the boss and the other two are his bodyguards mainly, all were wearing tuxes and trillby hats, smoking cigars. There was an epic episode which our main character solves a mystery set place in more-than-three-decades-before of today, there is the head of bulldog gang as one of the three suspects, other was some animal called "al dente" and I can't remember the other villain. I am really truly dying to find the name of the cartoon series, I searched everywhere, looked every site, but failed, with the keywords of "dog", "cartoon", "gang", "series", "al dente", "tux", "doberman", "bulldog", "detective" and so..

(Any chance the doberman gang was actually rottweilers?) You might be looking for this:
"Dog City" (1993) - Plot Summary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120949/plotsummary?ref_=tt_stry_pl)

I guess the series was a mix of muppet (puppet?) and animation...
