I am a canadian and have had a student loan in collections for 6 years or more and I am wondering if they can still take my income tax cheque to repay my loan. I have been out of school for over 10 years now. Is there a statute of limitations on that? I was living in Ontario when I got the loan and went to school there but am now living in new Brunswick. All I know is that for the past 6 years or more they have kept my income tax refund for my debt and I would like to know if they can keep doing this or for how long can they keep doing this/ Thanks

If its like the USA... student loans are one of few loans they can hound you for life until you pay what you owe. And they can't be discharged through bankruptcy.
