I was fired from my job yesterday. I was planning on sending a friend to pick up my last pay check, but was told I had to do it. Is this correct?

Just pick it up yourself. It's not worth creating more issues. You are still going to want to file for unemployment probably, and you may need a reference, so why be a pain in the neck about it?
They want you to come for your own protection. They don't want to give it to someone else, only to find out later you never got it. It's a reasonable request.
If you can't pick it up, or you feel uncomfortable going back on their premises, just tell them, "under the circumstances, I'm not comfortable coming back - will you please mail it to me?"

Good reasoning. Thank you!
